One of the clinical areas that the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines on pressure ulcer management1 considers is seating. But as insubstantial evidence exists on the efficacy of one cushion over another, it neither gives advice on the suitability of individual cushions, nor information on the materials they are constructed from and how their design might influence function.
