Pressure ulcers
Wound care specialists have the power to prevent pressure ulcers, as well as improve the experience of patients suffering from them.
Pressure ulcers significantly reduce the quality of life of patients and increase the costs of patient care, as well as the length of a hospital stay. The most notable feature of pressure ulcers is that most are preventable. It is up to the wound care specialist to devise effective strategies for reducing the prevalence of pressure ulcers; to identify patients at risk; and to implement effective strategies to reduce that risk. A sound knowledge of all the current issues surrounding the prevention, management and treatment of pressure ulcers is therefore essential.
